KYX Statement of Purpose

Kappa Upsilon Chi exists for several reasons. Our greatest desire is to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We also seek to uphold and maintain Biblical Christian standards, to be an influence in the community through servant lifestyles, to pursue a positive attitude and spirit, and to help others strengthen their academic achievement, enabling them to be what the Lord calls them to be. We do this by submitting to the Lord, our God and allowing Him to direct our lives as Psalm 139:23-24 states:

"Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and see my anxious thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
We seek solely to do the will of God.

Kappa Upsilon Chi is a national fraternity for Christian men, and was founded in 1993 at Texas Tech University in response to a need for Christian brotherhood on campus. The four founding fathers of Kappa Upsilon Chi sought to fulfill the original intentions of other fraternal organizations by recognizing that brotherhood is only authentic when it is an extension of our love of God and our unity with Him. Tyler Beard, David Boncler, Ken Rowland and Matt Welborn brought in a pledge class of 13 in the spring of 1993, beginning the Alpha Chapter of KYX. In 1995, twelve men from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX established the Beta Chapter, and the national expansion of KYX continued; with 14 active chapters across seven states, Kappa Upsilon Chi currently has over 1,000 active members and alumni in our brotherhood. Founded in the fall of 2005, the Kappa Chapter of KYX is a fraternity independent of the Interfraternity Council, and is a Recognized Student Organization with Florida State University.

Incorporating the social aspects of a fraternity brotherhood with an unshakable foundation of Christian ideals, the brothers of Kappa Chi form a unique community of Christian men. This community helps to sharpen men of God through personal growth and discipleship, creating influential leaders across Florida State University and beyond. We also seek to form a bridge between the Christian and Greek communities by pursuing growth, leadership and purity in Christ. We do this by blending the positive aspects of fraternity fellowship with a distinctly Christian purpose and mission. Members of Kappa Upsilon Chi at FSU are active in many campus ministries and organizations, including Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Marching Chiefs, Wesley Foundation, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, FSU Cycling Team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Reformed University Fellowship, Residence Hall Government, and many more campus and community organizations. We seek to do God's will on our campus and in the community we are placed in, living the values of Kappa Upsilon Chi and letting God's light shine through our service.

Kappa Upsilon Chi conforms with orthodox Christian beliefs as revealed in the Bible. We do not hold to a complete set of doctrinal beliefs in the interest of ecumenical understanding between fellow Christians, but we take the Nicene Creed to be our guiding statement on doctrinal issues. God's Word forms our foundational beliefs, as summarized in the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven:

by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of Life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. AMEN.
